Turkey's TAV Airports Holding won a tender in Latvia to carry out the infrastructural development and operation of the SJSC Riga International Airport in the country's capital city, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
TAV won the tender together with the Latvian construction company Skonto Buve Ltd, the statement said.
Â
TAV, who also operates Istanbul Ataturk Airport, currently runs six airports in Turkey, Tunisia, Georgia and Macedonia, holds rights to operate five more, and is bidding for new projects in countries such, Kazakhstan and Abu Dhabi.
Â
Sani Sener, the chairman of TAV said the result of the tender was no coincidence and added that "TAV's unique way of operating airports and its organizational structure give the company a superiority among its rivals in such tenders," Anatolian Agency reported.
Â
SJSC Riga International Airport was an important transit center that could act as a bridge between Northeast Europe and Asia, and TAV would try to make the airport the region's center, Sener also said.
